Grasscloth is woven from natural fibres such as sisal, jute, arrowroot and seagrass, laminated onto a paper backing. No two rolls are exactly alike: the weave, slubs and colour shifts are the point, and they give a room warmth and texture that printed wallpaper cannot copy.

Living rooms, bedrooms, offices, dining rooms and feature walls are ideal. Grasscloth is not a good fit for bathrooms with showers, kitchens behind the stove, or children's rooms at hand height: the fibres absorb moisture and marks and cannot be scrubbed.
Because each strip is cut from a natural material, seams show and colour can vary slightly from strip to strip. Designers treat that as character; if you want a perfectly uniform wall, look at textured vinyl with a grasscloth look instead.
Order every roll for one room from the same run so the colour matches, and add at least one extra roll for waste and repairs. Dust with a soft brush or vacuum brush attachment; blot spills immediately with a dry cloth and do not rub. Grasscloth needs an experienced installer: paste must stay off the face, and strips are usually reversed or hung to manage shading.
